Spring women’s tennis program includes 10 home matches

The Head Coach Colin Foster put the finishing touches on its spring 2021-22 double slate.

“We’re really happy with the way our schedule has gone,” said Foster. “It presents us with a great mix of games against a variety of opponents.”

The Shockers will play seven of their 21 regular season games against schools that finished in the top 75 in the ITA Division I team standings last spring.

“It’s not as heavy on the top 25 opponents as we have played in the past, but we have a plethora of opponents who finished between 40 and 75 so there will still be plenty of ranked opportunities for the team. , as well as for individuals And we are delighted that so many of these games are taking place at home. “

WSU hosts a total of 10 times, starting Saturday January 22 with a double afternoon / evening program against Saint Louis (2 p.m.) and Newman (6 p.m.) at Genesis East.

The American Athletic Conference does not play a regular season program, but seven of the other nine women’s tennis programs (plus one prospective member) will pass through Wichita at some point this spring.

Florida Atlantic, who earlier this fall accepted an invitation to join The American, is coming to town for a February 11 showdown at Genesis West Central. This will be the very first meeting between the programs.

The February home list also includes visits to Tulane (February 13), Tulsa (February 16) and Memphis (February 25).

The Shockers move outside in March and April and host Cincinnati (March 17), South Florida (March 18), Houston (April 1) and SMU (April 3) at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

WSU will play a tough road program again, starting with a three-day swing that begins in Des Moines, Iowa against defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Drake (Jan. 29) and continues with games in Omaha (30 January) and South Dakota (January 31).

The Shockers spend two days in Lincoln, Neb. for games against Creighton (February 5) and Nebraska (February 6) and travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on February 19 for a double dive against 2021 NCAA Tournament Qualifiers Arkansas and Oral Roberts.

The March schedule brings a swing to the road in Texas against Abilene Christian (March 6) and UT Arlington (March 7) and a trip north to take on her rival in Kansas State (March 27).

The regular season ends April 10 in Kansas City.

The American Athletic Conference Championship takes place just down the street in Tulsa, Oklahoma (April 20-23).
