Emma Raducanu provides update on 2022 preseason and tennis schedule

She enjoyed a short break during which she “completely turned off”, but US Open champion Emma Raducanu is back in training and preparing for the 2022 tennis season.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign as she became the first qualifier to go to the end of a Grand Slam, winning 10 matches en route to lifting the US Open trophy at Flushing Meadows .

She finished the year in career-high 19th place in the WTA standings with her last game of the season, a first-round loss to the Upper Austria Linz Ladies in early November.

Raducanu, however, took a few days off after her last event, but resumed training last week.

On Sunday, she played her first match on British soil since June as she faced Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the Champions Tennis exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall.

After winning with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory, she revealed her schedule for the next few weeks.

“Six days, I completely disconnected and started my preseason this week Tuesday, but I did a lot of fitness and not so much tennis so I was a little nervous to go out and play in front of everyone. here., “she said.

“I’m doing a preseason and I’m working hard on my fitness. As you can see, I need to work with my sprints towards the net as I get dropped. “

She will then be in action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi in December before traveling to Australia for the season opener Grand Slam.

She added: “So I do that and then I go to the Middle East to finish my preseason, then Christmas there and fly to Australia from there on the 27th.”
