The Academy’s Women’s Tennis Team for Academic Excellence made history on Tuesday afternoon by winning the league’s first-ever tennis match on the program.
Competing in the Desert Sky League for the first time in school history, the Knights outscored Barstow 15-3 on the road.
The AAE women’s tennis program was established in 2015, but it had not competed in a league, according to head coach Ally Samp.
The Knights were led in the singles by Ally Carbajal and Morgan Raines who swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
In doubles, AAE also got sweeps from the doubles teams of Mikayla Ramirez and Raquel Monge (6-4, 6-1, 6-0) and Jacqueline Garcia and Kaydance Langley (7-6, 6-1, 6-0 ).
The Knights are back in action Thursday at Granite Hills, and the Aztecs host Silverado.

In Apple Valley, the Cougars claimed victory in Tuesday’s season opener against the Jackrabbits, who only played two players in singles.
Granite Hills didn’t lose a doubles set, with teams Weston Bodle and Ty Esplin, and Wyatt Bodle and Jace Esplin sweeping with three bagels.

In doubles, Granite Hills got sweeps from teams Samantha Walsh and Valeria Toscano (6-2, 6-4, 6-1) and Ryder Kauffman and Shawna Halstead (6-3, 6-0, 6-1).
For Victor Valley, No. 1 singles player Kasandra Miranda swept 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-1.
